  • IMAGING ASSOCIATES INTRODUCES 3D PRINTING TO ALASKA
  • By Kalinda KindleANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — 3D printing is helping to both revolutionize and personalize medicine, allowing care providers to create visual models of a patient’s heart, brain, and other vital organs according to Dr. Gerald York, Medical Director at Imaging Associates.3D Printing“As a patient, it’s sometimes difficult to under exactly what’s going on inside their body,” York said. “So these 3D models allow us to communicate to patients what we see on the image in two dimensions.”York says the 3D printer uses a laser beam with high-resolution microns to lay down a resin at a very small scale that creates intricately detailed models that can be held in the palm of the hand, and that can aid surgeons planning complex surgical operations.
