Let Alaska’s Varicose Vein Treatment Experts
Get rid of your varicose veins without surgery.

Thanks to new laser technology, surgery is not necessary for successful varicose vein treatment. Imaging Associates of Providence offers VenaCure EVLT™ laser varicose vein treatment — a far simpler, minimally invasive treatment. It requires no surgery, minimal downtime and no hospital stay. And it’s all done as an outpatient procedure in about 60 minutes.

How does VenaCure varicose vein treatment work?

The traditional surgical varicose vein treatment was stripping and ligation, a solution many patients found very painful — and one that required up to six weeks of recovery time.

During our VenaCure varicose vein treatment procedure, a laser fiber is inserted into the target vein through a tiny puncture site. The laser energizes the fiber as it is withdrawn from the vein. Energy emitted from the tip of the fiber causes only the treated vein to close, while the body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.

Is VenaCure varicose vein treatment right for you?

Review a list of preliminary screening questions or call us to set up a consultation. We’ll talk to you about your medical history, the nature of your veins and other factors to determine if you’re a candidate for this procedure. If your veins in question are small red surface veins, commonly known as “spider veins,” you may be a candidate for visual schlerotherapy instead.

If your consultation indicates a strong chance of success for varicose vein treatment, we’ll schedule a diagnostic ultrasound for our doctors to best evaluate your situation and get you pre-approved with your insurance company. Once everything is a “go” we’ll schedule your treatment and you’ll be on your way to having healthier, better-looking legs.

Please note that for varicose vein treatment can only be done on one leg at a time. If you have varicose veins on both legs, you’ll need to wait at least 24 hours to treat the other leg.

How should I prepare for the procedure?

We’ll give you a complete set of instructions with information specific to your choice of sedation and other factors. One thing you’ll definitely need to do ahead of time is arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment, which will take from 2-3 hours total. The actual procedure itself only takes about an hour.

What should I expect?

At Imaging Associates, you’ll be positioned on a comfortable bed in our ultrasound room, complete with cable TV so you can sit back and relax.

An inteverventional radiologist will perform the procedure, assisted by a sonographer operating the ultrasound guiding equipment. The doctor starts by inserting a small needle into your vein around your knee and placing a guide wire and then a little tube into the needle and into the vein, guided by ultrasound. Then the laser fiber goes up inside the tube. The laser is activated and pulled out slowly, closing the varicose vein as it goes, in two to three minutes. Your blood automatically reroutes through your healthy veins. And your procedure is done.

What happens after the procedure?

After treatment, you can simply walk out of the office and resume your normal activities with only minimal restrictions such as not lifting heavy weights and wearing a compression stocking for a few weeks. Some people experience bruising, tenderness or muscle pull sensations for a week to 10 days after the procedure. We’ll give you complete instructions and schedule a follow up exam for you.
